Culture Studies in the Digital Age is divided into four sections: Society, Image, Media and Digital. The names of the sections are short for good reason - it would be foolish to sharply delineate the themes of this book, as the reader will see that the topics of any one chapter may use and blend the theories, approaches, and subjects of the other sections. But there is a utility to offering a general framework in dealing with the overall question of digital cultural studies. 

 

One might think: “The algorithms will write future essays.” But that means tenure for algorithms? Surely not! Oliva M. Espín, Author of our New Title, "My Native Land is Memory: Stories of a Cuban Childhood," Hosts a Webinar on February 15

Oliva M. Espín's Memoir "My Native Land is Memory: Stories of a Cuban Childhood"

Published by SDSU Press in January of 2020, Dr. Oliva Espín's beautiful memoir links history, culture and childhood together. On February 15th, in association with the Osher Institute at SDSU and as a part of their online lecture series, Espín will be discussing the memoir over Zoom. 

Espín's memoir recalls her life growing up in Cuba. The SDSU professor offers a unique narrative regarding Latin America, the United States and immigration. Espín weaves her past and present together with an expert feminist view.

The upcoming webinar hosted by the Osher Institute at SDSU will discuss the novel with Espín herself.  The 90 minute webinar will be held on February 15th, 2021 at 1:30pm-3pm PST. There will be a 60 minute presentation on the memoir, and then an open Q&A session that will last 30 minutes.

Damn Covid! Full Speed Ahead for Professors Peter Herman, William Nericcio, and Jessica Pressman--part of the literature.sdsu.edu Team @SDSU

Last semester The SDSU Department of English and Comparative Literature had scheduled a new book celebration to, well, celebrate new books by Peter Herman, Bill Nericcio, and Jessica Pressman. 

Due to the campus shutdown, the Department had to postpone the event. 

But good news! 

The 2019/20 Book Celebration will now be held on Monday, September 21 from 12-1:30. We will celebrate the publication of  Peter’s Unspeakable: Literature and Terrorism from the Gunpowder Plot to 9/11, Bill’s Talking #Browntv: Latinas and Latinos on the Screen, and Jessica’s Bookishness: Loving Books in a Digital Age.
